Targeted Improvements for Technical Domain Machine Translation

Description

Neural MT (NMT) offers significant improvements in overall translation quality in recent years, but even the latest models struggle with accurately translating brand names and important technical terms. How can accurate translation be ensured for brand names and terms with known approved translations, even if the training data contains alternative translations? Can contextual clues be used to force the correct translation of ambiguous terms? This PhD will focus on exploring how improved term translation can be integrated within a general domain NMT model, to make targeted improvements to the overall translation quality. The main application area is MT for custom domains, such as information technology and software localisation.
